Instead of PSLog

Stop renting PSLog. Own your harvest and log sales system.

We build your version around your grades, rates and owners, bring your PSLog docket history across, and run it for you.

PSLog does not publish a price; its developer quotes the licence, and a hosted version is sold through a forestry services firm. Here the code is free and the records are yours.

What the licence covers

Most of a harvest system is arithmetic over your own dockets

PSLog tracks dockets, sets up prices and costs, reconciles docket data from different sources, and produces tax and buyer-created invoices. Each of those is a sum over records you already keep.

request_quote

A price you only get by asking

PSLog lists no price on its site. You fill in a contact form and get a quote, and the hosted version is a separate arrangement.

receipt_long

Docket capture

Rapid entry and imports for each load. Underneath, a docket is a number, a date, a grade, a buyer, a truck and two weights.

price_change

Prices and costs per load

Sale prices, logging, cartage and management costs looked up for every load. That is the rate in force on the day, times the tonnes.

compare_arrows

Reconciliation

Dockets matched against what each mill says it received. A list of loads on one side and not the other, and tonnes that differ.

description

Tax and buyer-created invoices

Invoices to buyers and to contractors. Your version produces them, with both GST numbers, and checks the agreement is on file.

query_stats

The report menu

Production, transport, sales and cost reports. Your own database answers the same questions, and the ones the menu never had.

What the harvest office gets instead

Mill

Every docket on a statement

Import each buyer’s statement and see straight away what does not match your dockets.

  • check Loads the mill has not reported after a week, with their value
  • check Statement lines with no docket behind them
  • check Mill tonnes more than your tolerance off the weighbridge
  • check Mill values that differ from the price sheet in force that day

Owners

Owner returns that write themselves

Each month’s received loads, the sale, logging, cartage, levy and your fee, and the net, in your brand.

  • check What each harvest returned the owner per tonne, after every cost
  • check Which months have loads not yet on a return
  • check A plain-English update for each owner, drafted for you to check
  • check The growers’ levy deducted by buyers against what the owner still owes

Contractors

Crews and carriers paid from the dockets

One pay run per crew or carrier for every unpaid load, at their contract rate.

  • check Buyer-created tax invoices where an agreement is on file
  • check A warning when a contractor’s GST number is missing
  • check Tonnes per working day by crew
  • check Cartage per tonne to each buyer against what the load earns there

Council

Notices nobody misses

Each harvest and replanting carries its council notice window, counted in working days the way the Resource Management Act counts them.

  • check The last day to give notice of harvesting, and the first day it counts
  • check Harvesting plans that must be in place before the crew starts
  • check Replanting notices due after a harvest finishes
  • check Trucks loaded over the weight they may carry

Switching

How to switch from PSLog

A move usually involves exporting the docket history you want, mapping your records, checking the import and running both systems side by side before you switch.

  1. 1

    Export your records

Start with the PSLog docket detail report for the period you want to bring across. PSLog reports can be produced in Excel, so export what your account allows and check with PSLog if you are unsure. Save the docket report as CSV for import. Gather each buyer’s statement too if you want to bring across what the mill or exporter says it received.

  2. 2

Set up and test the import

Before loading records, add the owners, forests, harvests, buyers and price sheets you need. Every docket must belong to a harvest, matched from its harvest or setting column. Import the docket report and run the test first. Use the test to check how your columns map before records are loaded. If your column names differ, map them to the fields the system expects.

  3. 3

    Check flagged records

Review the test results and any records the import flags before doing the full load. Unknown grades, buyers, carriers and trucks are created and counted, so check these against your own lists. Confirm the dockets are attached to the right harvest and that the buyer statements match what you expect. Correct any issues in your source records or setup, then run the import.

  4. 4

    Run both systems briefly

Keep PSLog available while you use Forest Harvest alongside it for a short period. Compare the dockets and buyer statements in both systems, and check that loads, grades, buyers, trucks and mill-received figures agree. Use the record checks to find gaps or differences that need attention. Invoices, owner returns and pay runs already issued in PSLog do not come across.

  5. 5

    Switch off PSLog

Once you have checked the imported records and are comfortable using Forest Harvest for the work you are moving, stop entering new records in PSLog. Keep access to PSLog records of invoices, owner returns and pay runs that were already issued. Those records stay in PSLog rather than transferring in this version.

Where the real effort goes

The real work is usually mapping your column names, fields, grades, rates and rules, then deciding how much docket history to bring across. You also need to set up the harvests and other records the dockets belong to. If you have Enterprise DNA install and run it for you, they work through your harvests, owners and docket history with you and handle this migration part.

Questions

Instead of PSLog, answered

Can we bring our PSLog dockets across? expand_more

PSLog reports can be produced in Excel. A docket detail report for the period, saved as a spreadsheet, brings loads, grades, buyers and trucks across, and each buyer’s statement brings what they received. We map your column names and do a test run before you switch. Invoices and returns already issued stay in PSLog for the record.

Do our drivers still get electronic dockets? expand_more

The free version does not put a screen in the cab. Dockets come in from the weighbridge, a docket book or a spreadsheet. If your crews use a docket app, connecting it so loads arrive on their own is part of the version we build.

Will it produce buyer-created tax invoices? expand_more

Yes, for logging crews and carriers you have an agreement with, with both GST numbers on them. For buyers that create the invoice for you, you record their statement. The checks flag a missing agreement or GST number. Your accountant still signs off how you run GST.

Does it keep us right with the council? expand_more

It works out the window for each notice of harvesting and replanting in working days, and when the harvesting plan must be in place, and flags anything late or early. It checks what you recorded, so a clean result means the records show no gap. It is not legal advice.

What do we pay Enterprise DNA? expand_more

One setup fee, then a retainer for the agreed customisation and operation. We go through your harvests, owners and docket history with you before setting the scope. The free code has no licence fee; hosting and your chosen assistant have their own costs.

Build it around how your harvests run

Spend 30 minutes with Sam. Bring your PSLog quote, one month’s docket report and the owner return you wish you could send. We will map the version you need and the records to bring across.
