Instead of Timely

Stop renting Timely. Own your salon system.

We build your version around how your salon actually runs, bring your Timely clients and appointments across, and run it for you. No per-stylist pricing, and the system is yours.

Timely's own pricing runs US$26 to US$47 per bookable staff member per month (about A$42 to A$79 on the local card): every chair on the middle plan is US$468 a year, so a 10-chair salon pays ten times that before texts and payment fees.

What you are paying for

Most of a Timely bill is the front end

The client book, the formulas and the appointment history are yours. The screens around them are what you rent, and the rent is set per bookable staff member, per month, per tier, so it grows with every chair you fill.

paid

A price on every stylist

Build is US$26, Elevate US$39, Innovate US$47, per bookable staff member per month (about A$42 to A$79 locally). Every apprentice who starts taking clients is another line on the bill.

layers

Tiers that gate the basics

The consultation forms, the campaign tools or the reporting you want sit one plan up. The upgrade reprices every staff member at once.

sms

Texts on a meter

Each plan includes a monthly text allowance; past it, every reminder is a per-message charge. The thing that stops no-shows is the thing on the meter.

credit_card

Payment fees on top

Card payments through the platform carry processing fees on every transaction, on top of the subscription you already pay.

dashboard

Dashboards that answer their questions

The reports show what the vendor decided to chart. Which colour clients booked next week have no valid patch test is not one of them.

lock

Your client history behind their export

Years of visits, colour formulas and client records live in their cloud. Leaving means report exports and a rebuild, which is exactly why nobody leaves.

What you get instead

The client book you own, with the rules of the trade built in

The book

A book that refuses the dangerous booking

The gates are in the open, cite their sources, and have no override buttons. Timely trusts the front desk to remember; this refuses and says why.

  • check No colour books without a clear allergy alert test on record, done at least 48 hours before and still inside its window
  • check A client whose last patch test recorded a reaction is never booked for colour again from here: that becomes a conversation, not a booking
  • check Nobody is double-booked, and nothing is booked outside a stylist's working hours
  • check Every morning, one list of what wants a decision, worst first, with the fix named on each line

The clients

The formula record and the client card, yours forever

The colour record is the reason switching salons feels impossible. It lives in your database now, on a card you can print.

  • check Every visit, every mix, every "next time go half a shade cooler", against the client, in your own words
  • check A colour visit checked out without its formula recorded is raised the same week, while the mix is still in someone's head
  • check Allergy notes and patch test dates travel onto the day sheet, so the chair knows before the client sits down
  • check Birthdays, referral sources and the conversation record sit on the same card

The money

Rebooking, no-shows and the empty chair, measured

The numbers a salon lives or dies on, straight off your own records instead of a report screen three taps deep.

  • check Rebooking rate per chair: what share of visits walk out holding their next appointment
  • check The recall list ranked by what each quiet client actually spent this year, not alphabetically
  • check No-show habits counted per client over six months, so the deposit conversation is fair and consistent
  • check Takings by chair with retail per visit beside it, plus tomorrow's open hours priced before they happen

The rules

Consent, vouchers and stock handled like a grown-up

Seven rules run against your records on demand, each one citing where it comes from.

  • check Recall and campaign drafts only ever address clients who opted in; everyone else lands on a call list, by law and by design
  • check Gift voucher balances are watched: expiring money is raised 30 days out, and an expired voucher honoured is recorded as the goodwill call it is
  • check Retail never sells stock that is not on the shelf, and the dispensary is checked before a colour week runs dry
  • check The day sheet, the client record card and the weekly takings print from your data with your name on them

[1] patch_test Jessica Park Ruby Ngata APT-1034 Thu 2026-10-01 Jessica Park is booked for Balayage with no allergy alert test on record: the colour manufacturer requires the test at least 48 hours before (HSWA 2015 s 36 duty of care). Get them in for a patch test now or the colour does not happen

[1] patch_test Mere Kingi Ava Brennan APT-1031 Sun 2026-09-27 Mere Kingi is booked for Global colour with a patch test last done 2026-03-10, outside the validity window: the colour manufacturer requires the test at least 48 hours before (HSWA 2015 s 36 duty of care). Get them in for a patch test now or the colour does not happen

[2] not_checked_out Grace Foley Claire Donovan APT-1026 Thu 2026-09-24 Grace Foley's Style cut & finish on 2026-09-24 is still open on the book: if they came, check it out; if they did not, mark it. An open booking is takings nobody counted

[3] unconfirmed Priya Sharma Ruby Ngata APT-1030 Sun 2026-09-27 10:00 Priya Sharma is booked 10:00 Sun for Style cut & finish and has not confirmed: an unanswered reminder is how a no-show starts

[4] no_show Daniel Wu Leo Marsh APT-1019 Fri 2026-09-25 Daniel Wu no-showed Men's cut (2 no-show(s) in six months): call while it is fresh. Rebook it, and if this is a habit, a deposit next time is fair

[5] formula_missing Olivia Bennett Ruby Ngata APT-1010 Mon 2026-09-21 Olivia Bennett's Global colour was checked out with no formula recorded: in six weeks nobody will remember the mix. Record it while it is still in someone's head

Questions Timely cannot answer

Every one of these is a real question the demo answers today. Yours will be different, and that is the point.

Switching

How to switch from Timely

Moving off Timely mostly comes down to exporting two files, checking what came across, and running the new system next to Timely for a short overlap before you cancel.

  1. 1

    Export your clients and appointments

Timely lets you export your client list and appointment history, usually to CSV or Excel. Pull both files before you touch anything else on the new side. If your export screen looks different from what is described here, check with Timely support for the exact steps, since export options can change between plans and add-ons.

  2. 2

Load them in, dry run first

Ask Claude Code to bring the two files in, and have it do a dry run before it books anything for real. This step matches your Timely columns to the new system's fields and shows you exactly what it would do, without changing a single record, so you catch problems before they land in the database.

  3. 3

    Check what the import flagged

The import names every row it could not match or chose to skip. It also deliberately drops every client's patch test record rather than assume the old one still holds. Read through this list. It is where you catch missing clients, mismatched columns, and the colour clients who now need a fresh allergy test before their next booking.

  4. 4

    Run both side by side

Keep Timely running for a short stretch while the new system holds the same bookings. Book new appointments in both, compare what each shows for a normal week, and use this window to spot anything that came across wrong before you rely on the new system alone.

  5. 5

    Switch off Timely

Once the appointment book, client history and formulas match what you expect, cancel your Timely subscription. Your card terminal keeps taking payments exactly as before, since that never depended on Timely. Only the platform sitting in the middle of your bookings goes away.

construction

Where the real effort goes

The export and import are mechanical. The real work is matching your own Timely fields and any custom rules to the new records, and deciding how much history to bring across. Colour formulas usually sit in free-text notes, so the top clients' mixes get moved by hand, about twenty minutes per stylist. If Enterprise DNA installs and runs this for you, they do this part.

Questions

Instead of Timely, answered

Is it really free? expand_more

Yes. MIT licence. Run it anywhere, change anything, no account with us.

How do clients book? expand_more

In the free version, the phone rings or they rebook at the till, and whoever runs the desk books it in one sentence. An online booking page your clients use themselves, writing into the same records, is exactly what Enterprise DNA builds into your version.

What about text reminders? expand_more

The free version drafts every reminder and recall as a short message with the client's number beside it, and a person sends them; nothing is metered. Wired-up automatic sending is a customisation we build, and the consent rules are already in: marketing messages only ever go to clients who said yes.

Our colour formulas live in Timely. Do we lose them? expand_more

No, and this is the record that matters most. Your client history and appointments import from Timely's own exports. Formulas usually sit in free-text notes there, so the top clients' mixes get brought across by hand once, about twenty minutes per stylist, and from then on every formula lives in a database you own, printable as a record card.

We take card payments through Timely. What happens to that? expand_more

Your card terminal keeps taking payments exactly as it does today; this system holds the record of what was sold, by whom, for how much. What you stop paying is the platform's cut of being in the middle of it.

Stop paying per stylist to see your own client book

You pay per staff member, per month, for a client book, a formula record and a till report that live in someone else's cloud. 30 minutes with Sam. We look at what you pay Timely for, what your front desk actually uses, and what the installed version would look like for your salon. If it is a fit, we install it. If it is not, take the free version and run it yourself.

Salon for Claude Code is free and open source, published by Enterprise DNA.
