A Reddit user handed Claude a raw BIOS dump from their laptop and asked it to unlock hidden firmware menus. Claude disassembled the binary, located the RSA signature-check function buried in the code, and patched the verifier so it always returns true. The laptop owner flashed the modified firmware and suddenly had access to settings the manufacturer never intended them to see.

Two separate security researchers on X picked up the story within hours of each other, according to one of the posts. What makes this notable is not that BIOS patching is new. People have been doing it for years. What matters is that an AI agent did the entire reverse-engineering job without human supervision. No hand-holding, no step-by-step prompts. Just a file and a goal.
