Four separate open-source projects launched in the past few weeks, all trying to do the same thing: build a knowledge graph of your codebase so AI agents can understand what’s actually in there before they start changing it. The daily star counts look suspiciously high, the kind of numbers that suggest coordinated attention rather than pure organic discovery, but the pattern itself matters more than any single repo’s trajectory.

The names tell the story. ECC, Graphify, Understand-Anything, CodeGraph. Different teams, same insight: if you want an AI agent to refactor code or fix a bug without breaking everything downstream, it needs a map of how the pieces connect. Functions, dependencies, data flows. A flat file structure does not cut it. This is not a new idea, it’s just newly urgent now that people are handing agents write access to production repos.

We built this exact capability into EDNA-CC months ago, calling it CodeGraph and later RepoLens. It was not a guess. It was the only way to let an agent work across a real codebase without constant human supervision. The fact that four independent projects converged on the same architecture in the same month confirms the problem is real and the solution is not optional anymore.
