Herdr is a Rust-based terminal interface that watches agent state across sessions. cc-switch is a GitHub repo that hit 120,903 stars and is still gaining 341 stars a day after nearly a year, which is rare for a developer tool that never got mainstream press. claude-thermos landed on Hacker News four days ago, pulled 106 upvotes and 83 comments, and solves the exact same orchestration headache.
None of these tools had venture backing or a launch campaign. They grew because developers who run agent fleets needed a cockpit, built one, and other people with the same problem found it. The convergence matters more than any single repo. When three builders arrive at the same answer independently, the underlying need is structural, not niche.
What this means if you employ agents
If your team is experimenting with AI coding tools, or if you’re thinking about agents that draft contracts, pull data, or write reports, you will hit this problem the moment you run more than two at once. Right now these are command-line tools for developers. In six months someone will wrap a UI around the pattern and sell it as “AI operations software.” The smart move is to understand the orchestration layer now, while it’s still scrappy and you can shape it to your workflow.
