The play
Sierra's TakeOff buy proves tiny teams can hit eight figures on outcome-priced agents, pitch the model with this as precedent.
Sierra just bought TakeOff, a three-person startup that claims it went from zero to nearly $10 million in annualized revenue in a matter of months by landing several seven-figure contracts. The combined company will sell AI agents under a new “Horizon” brand, and the business model is worth paying attention to: outcome-based pricing instead of per-seat subscriptions.
What that means in practice is you pay for results, not for how many people log in. If the agent books qualified meetings, processes claims, or closes support tickets, you pay for those outcomes. If it doesn’t deliver, you don’t. That shifts risk away from the buyer and forces the vendor to build agents that actually work in messy, real-world workflows. It also changes the math for adoption. A CFO who balks at another SaaS line item might greenlight a deal where cost scales with measurable output.
TakeOff’s reported traction, if accurate, suggests there’s real demand for agents that run longer, more complex tasks without a human stepping in every few minutes. The term “long-horizon” means the agent can handle multi-step processes over hours or days, not just answer a single question and hand off. That’s harder to build and harder to trust, but it’s also where the ROI starts to look compelling for operations teams stretched thin.
This is exactly the kind of shift we’re building into tools like the Omni Command Centre, where you can orchestrate agents across workflows and track what’s actually getting done. If you’re running a business that depends on repeatable processes, watch how outcome pricing evolves. It might be the unlock that makes agents worth the operational risk.
