The two biggest AI labs just posted their largest lobbying bills yet. Anthropic spent $1.97 million in Q2 2026, nearly triple what it spent six months earlier. OpenAI came in at $1.2 million, up 18% from the previous quarter. Together, that’s $3.17 million in three months, a 23% jump from Q1, according to Axios reporting.

Both companies listed the same focus areas: cybersecurity, copyright, cloud computing, and defense procurement. The timing isn’t subtle. OpenAI and Anthropic are both positioning for IPOs, and Washington is gearing up for policy fights that will shape how AI companies operate, who they can sell to, and what they owe creators whose work trained their models.
