The play

If Claude Code is your primary delivery tool, build a hot-swap runbook to OpenAI or an open-weight alternative, three outages in 72 hours is a pattern.

Claude went down hard on July 29. The outage ran nearly three hours, from about 7:49 PM to 10:36 PM UTC, and drew over 2,000 user reports. About half of those complaints pointed specifically at Claude Code, the coding assistant Anthropic is pushing as its enterprise product.

This is the third major outage in as many months. StatusGator logs 155 incidents since January, which is a lot for a service trying to win over companies that need reliability. The timing stings because Anthropic has been positioning Claude Code as a core tool for developers inside large organizations. When your enterprise wedge product goes offline for three hours, customers notice.

What this means if you’re using Claude

If you’ve built workflows around Claude, especially coding tasks, you need a backup plan. Outages happen, but this frequency suggests infrastructure strain. Companies relying on a single AI provider for critical work are learning the hard way that uptime matters as much as capability. This is exactly the kind of scenario we account for in the Omni Command Centre, where routing between models keeps work moving even when one provider stumbles.

The broader pattern is worth watching. As AI models get embedded deeper into business operations, reliability becomes a competitive issue, not just a feature. Anthropic has strong technology, but if Claude keeps dropping out, enterprises will hedge with multi-model setups or shift budget to more stable alternatives. For now, if you’re using Claude in production, document what breaks when it goes down and have a fallback ready. The full incident details are available if you want to track how Anthropic responds.
