Anthropic just put out a research preview called Agent Teams, and it’s already making the rounds on LinkedIn because it changes how you’d think about using Claude at scale. The pattern is simple: one orchestrator agent spins up multiple teammate agents in parallel, all working from a shared task list. Each teammate runs in its own session, so they can tackle different parts of a job at the same time without stepping on each other.

The headline demo is ambitious. Anthropic used 16 agents across roughly 2,000 sessions to build a 100,000-line Rust compiler. The API bill came to about $20,000. That’s a research showcase, not a Tuesday morning workflow. The documentation makes it clear the practical sweet spot is three to five teammates. Beyond that, coordination overhead starts eating the time and cost savings, and you’re just managing a crowd instead of getting work done faster.

What this means for you

If you’re already using Claude for anything repetitive or multi-step, this pattern matters. Think customer support triage where one agent routes and three others handle refunds, technical questions, and account changes in parallel. Or content work where one agent outlines and three others draft sections, research competitors, and pull data. You need Opus 4.6 to run it, and you need someone who can set up the orchestration logic, but the structure itself is not magic.

The real question is whether your process has enough natural parallelism to justify the added complexity. If you’re doing one thing at a time anyway, a single agent is still faster and cheaper.
