The play
Anthropic's Sonnet 5 pricing jumps 50% September 1, audit your usage now and decide whether to pass the increase through or absorb it.
Anthropic’s promotional pricing for Claude Sonnet 5 ends August 31. Starting September 1, input costs jump from $2 to $3 per million tokens, output from $10 to $15. That’s a 50% increase across the board, and it applies to every API call you make after the clock rolls over.
If you’re running anything on Sonnet 5, now is the time to pull usage logs and do the math. A workflow processing 10 million input tokens and 2 million output tokens a month will go from $40 to $90. That’s $600 a year on one model alone. Multiply that across teams, agents, or customer-facing tools and the step-up adds up fast.
Anthropic also changed its Enterprise plan. It’s now $20 per seat per month plus usage billed at standard API rates, with no guaranteed token allocation. That means you’re paying for access and then paying again for every token you use, which makes budgeting harder if your volume swings month to month.
For us, this directly affects the cost of goods for anything we build into the Omni Command Centre that runs on Sonnet 5. We’re reviewing current usage and deciding whether the increase needs to pass through to retainer pricing or if we can absorb it by optimizing prompts and caching strategies. If you’re building on Anthropic’s models, you should do the same before September 1.
The broader point is that promotional pricing always expires. If you locked in workflows during the intro period, you need a plan for the new baseline. Check the official pricing page for the full breakdown, and run your own numbers before the end of the month. Waiting until September to notice the jump is expensive.
