The play
Audit product feeds, trade-in information, and financing answers now, because conversational shopping will expose outdated or inconsistent store data.
Apple is testing a chat-style shopping assistant inside its Apple Store iOS app. For some users, it replaces the usual search icon and can answer product questions, estimate trade-in values, and explain financing options. The rollout appears to be widening today, but Apple hasn’t announced it publicly.
This matters because it’s Apple’s first clearly visible move into consumer-facing AI that can help guide a purchase, not just answer a general question. A customer who’s deciding between two iPhones, weighing a trade-in, or trying to understand monthly payments may get through the buying process without searching menus, reading comparison pages, or waiting for staff.
The timing is interesting too. Apple has faced scrutiny around its AI plans, including the Siri and Vision Pro changes reported this week. Rather than launching this with a big event, it seems to be testing a narrow, practical use case where the value is easy to measure. Does it help people find the right product? Does it reduce abandoned purchases? Does it lower the volume of basic support questions?
For business owners, the lesson isn’t that every company needs a shopping chatbot tomorrow. It’s that AI assistants are moving into the moments where customers make decisions and money changes hands. Start with the questions that repeatedly slow down a sale, such as pricing, availability, product fit, payment terms, or returns. This is the kind of thing we build into an AI command centre, with visibility over the questions customers ask and where your team still needs to step in.
