The play

Pilot the local governance kernel with a small agent fleet, validating identity, policy, provenance, and audit controls before production.

Halofy is an early open-source project trying to solve a problem many companies will hit as they deploy more AI agents. It positions itself as a local layer for agent identity, policy, provenance and audit. In plain terms, it aims to answer basic operational questions: which agent did what, what rules applied, where did an action or result come from, and can you review it later?

Its notable design choice is that it runs on an embedded local database, with no API keys or cloud calls required. That could matter for businesses handling sensitive internal data, or for teams that don’t want their governance records tied to another external service. It also makes the idea more practical for controlled environments where cloud access is limited.

The project is very new, with 347 GitHub stars, 76 stars a day and eight open pull requests in its first few days. That suggests attention, not proof. It hasn’t earned the trust required for production governance yet, and the real test will be whether it can handle the messy reality of multiple agents, changing policies and human oversight.

Still, the direction is worth watching. Agent adoption creates a management problem long before it creates a technology problem. If staff can spin up agents that access documents, send messages or make decisions, you need a clear record and sensible controls around them. This is the kind of thing we build into an AI command centre, bringing visibility and governance around the AI work happening across a business.
