The play

Inspect repositories and disable session URLs before customer-facing commits, especially where privacy or provenance matters.

Claude Code reportedly adds a Claude session URL to commit messages and pull request descriptions by default. Developers are pushing back because those links can become clutter in a shared repository, and because a session link attached to routine code changes raises sensible questions about who can see it, how long it remains accessible, and whether it belongs in a customer-facing project at all.

The Hacker News discussion is getting more comments than its score would normally suggest, 170 comments against 137 points. That usually means people aren’t just reacting to the product. They’re arguing about the default. The core complaint is simple. If a tool adds external references to company records, teams want to choose that behaviour explicitly, rather than discover it after the fact.

For a business owner, this is a small but useful reminder that AI coding tools don’t only write code. They can also change the artefacts around your code, including commit history, pull requests, documentation, and audit trails. It’s worth checking whether EDNA’s own commits are carrying Claude URLs into customer repos, then deciding whether that is acceptable for each client and project. This is the kind of thing we build into an AI command centre, where teams can track how AI tools are being used and set practical operating rules around them.
