AI Pulse · Under the Radar
The play
Treat unsolicited agent-service offers as a credibility risk, and verify vendor results through references, working demos, and measurable outcomes.
A deep-dive from Tedium traces the operator behind a mass-email campaign pitching low-quality “AI agent” services. The story reached Hacker News’ front page, drawing 84 points and 42 comments, which tells you the irritation is widespread. Plenty of people are seeing the same pattern in their inboxes, big claims about agents, little proof of useful work, and a generic sales pitch sent at scale.
The lesson for business owners is simple. “AI agent” has become an easy label to sell, which means you need to look past the label. Ask what specific process the agent handles, what systems it connects to, what decisions it can and cannot make, and how someone checks its work. If a provider can’t answer those questions clearly, you’re probably buying a demo or a lead-generation scheme, not an operational tool.
This also matters if your company is building with AI. Don’t market an agent as magic. Tie it to a real job, such as qualifying inbound leads, preparing weekly reporting, or routing customer requests. Show the boundaries and the human review points. That’s the kind of practical control we build into an AI command centre, because useful AI should reduce work, not create another inbox problem.
