The play
Before routing sensitive work through a new LLM gateway, verify its retention, compliance controls, model coverage, and auditability against your requirements.
Consus has launched an LLM gateway for companies working with sensitive data, including ITAR-restricted information and controlled unclassified information. The company says it routes requests through infrastructure designed for those requirements and recently completed a FedRAMP equivalency audit against 410 controls. The launch post on Hacker News received 27 points. The post describes the gateway as a way to connect different AI tools and models through one endpoint, with each model request required to specify a compliance level. Requests using a model name without that suffix are rejected.
For an operator, the practical issue is control: staff may want to use AI, while the business needs limits on which models they can access and how sensitive data is handled. Consus says administrators can allowlist models and set spending and model restrictions for individual users. It also says prompts and completions stay in memory for the request and are not stored or logged, while request metadata is kept for billing and audits. Those are the company’s stated practices, not a guarantee that every risk around using AI tools disappears.
Consus requires organizations to be verified and under contract before it issues API keys. That makes this a managed service, not something a team can simply sign up for and use immediately. For companies weighing several AI tools against their data rules, a clear view of available tools and controls can help frame the decision.
