Anthropic expands federal access

Anthropic has expanded its agreement with the US General Services Administration, offering government partners a 40% discount on Claude Enterprise, Claude for Government, and the Claude API. The discount applies across products, whether agencies buy directly or through cloud providers in the coming months, and includes state, local, tribal, and territorial governments. The agreement has no minimum spend commitment, so agencies pay for the usage they consume. Anthropic estimates the discounts will save the government $1 billion. The company’s announcement says about 500 US federal, state, and local government organizations now use Claude.

For business owners, the important signal is distribution: Anthropic is making its products available through a wider public-sector buying channel, not just adding another customer. It’s also launching a program to help agencies implement Claude and make the most of its use. That could make adoption easier for organizations working within tight budgets and long procurement cycles, though the announcement doesn’t say how many agencies will take up the offer.
