The plans
What Harvest charges
Harvest charges per person, per month, and the number of seats you carry sets the bill. The screens you get for that money change by tier, with profitability reporting, timesheet approvals and unlimited custom reports held back for the top plan.
Free plan
Free
Capped at one seat and two projects, enough to see how it works but not enough to bill a real month with.
Entry plan
Quoted privately
The base per-seat rate, without profitability reporting, timesheet approvals or unlimited custom reports.
Top tier
Quoted privately
Adds profitability reporting, timesheet approvals, unlimited custom reports and SSO, priced per seat on top of the base rate.
How the bill is built
A seat for every person, every month
Billing is per person per month. A contractor logging four hours a week costs the same seat as the person billing forty, so the bill grows with headcount, not with the work actually billed.
Profit numbers cost an upgrade
Profitability reporting, timesheet approvals and unlimited custom reports sit above the entry plan. Seeing what a job actually earned means paying the top-tier per-seat rate for every person on the account.
A free plan you cannot run on
One seat and two projects is the free ceiling. It shows the tool works, but no real business bills a month of work through it, so the free plan is really a trial.
Reports the vendor chose to build
You get the charts on the menu, nothing else. A question like which fixed-fee jobs earned under a set rate once design time is counted is not a chart Harvest built, so it is not available at any tier.
A year of Harvest
Quoted privately, driven by seats and tier
Harvest publishes no yearly figure. What sets the annual cost is how many people log time and which tier you need. Wanting profitability reporting or approvals means the top-tier per-seat rate for every seat, not just the people who need those screens, so the total climbs with headcount and features together.
Underneath the bill
What you are really paying for
A seat for a record you already have
Every person who logs an hour is a monthly seat, whether they bill four hours a week or forty. You are paying rent on the row of data, not on the work it took to create it.
Profit numbers held back from you
What a job actually earned is arithmetic on hours already sitting in the account. Harvest puts that arithmetic behind the top tier and charges per seat again to unlock it.
Your own history behind their export
Years of hours, rates and invoices live in their account, not yours. Leaving means a CSV and a rebuild, and even then the budgets do not come across.
The owned alternative
Your own version, built and run for you
Enterprise DNA builds Time Billing for Claude Code around how your business actually runs, brings your Harvest history across, and runs it for you, for one setup fee and then a monthly retainer, with no per-seat charge as your team grows. An owner who prefers to run things directly can use the free version themselves, on the same plain records, with no account or licence required.
Time Billing for Claude Code
One setup fee, then a monthly retainer. No per-seat plans, no tiers, and the system is yours.

Questions
Harvest pricing, answered
Does Harvest charge by the number of people, or by usage? expand_more
By people. Harvest bills per person per month, so the cost is tied to how many seats you carry, not to how many hours are actually billed through the account. A quiet month costs the same as a busy one.
Can I see project profitability on the cheapest Harvest plan? expand_more
No. Profitability reporting, timesheet approvals and unlimited custom reports are held for the top tier. Seeing what a job earned means paying the top-tier per-seat rate for every seat on the account, not just the ones who need it.
Is the free Harvest plan enough to run a real business on? expand_more
Not really. The free plan is capped at one seat and two projects, which is enough to test the screens but not enough to bill a normal month of client work across a team.
