Instead of Trail
Stop renting Trail. Own your mortgage broking system.
We build your version around how you track pipeline, chase commissions and manage refixes, bring your Trail data across, and run it for you. No plan tiers, and the system is yours.
Trail charges a custom per adviser licence fee on application, plus hourly fees for bespoke reporting and a fixed migration fee per practice.

What you are paying for
Most of a Trail bill is the front end
The clients, the loans, the expiry dates and the file are yours. The screens around them are what you rent, and the price of the rent is a custom quote per adviser that you get after the demo.
A licence for every adviser, priced on application
There is no price list. You book a demo, describe your business, and receive a custom quote, with the discount growing as the seat count does. The bill scales with your headcount either way.
Reports billed by the hour
If the built-in reports do not answer your question, bespoke reporting is a paid service at an hourly rate, invoiced up front, with a developer queue of up to two weeks. Your own data, on a meter.
Your client list behind admin access
Exporting the client list requires organisation admin access. An ordinary adviser seat cannot pull its own book out of the system that holds it.
A fee to arrive
Getting your data in is a migration project: a fixed fee per practice that grows with adviser count and CRM obscurity, and two to four weeks of waiting while it runs.
A CRM welded to an aggregation deal
The adviser CRMs in this market come bundled with an aggregation relationship. The bundle feels free until you want to change one half of it and discover the other half is the exit fee.
Admin instead of advising
Keeping the pipeline tidy, chasing the commission statement line by line, remembering which fixed rates are coming up. That is work the tool tracks, not work it removes.
What you get instead
A broker system you talk to
The refix book
Every fixed expiry, and who has not been rung
Most NZ lending sits on short fixed terms, so the refix list is the retention business. One command shows every expiry with the last contact date and the clawback position beside it.
- check Every fixed rate reaching expiry, soonest first, with the balance that rolls
- check A LAPSED flag when a rate has already ended and the client is paying floating right now
- check Last contact beside every expiry, because the rate ending in three weeks for a client last rung in July is a competitor's cashback offer
- check A refix due inside a clawback window flagged as the dangerous kind: lose the client and the upfront goes back too
The pipeline
Deals as deadlines, not cards
A deal is a set of clocks: the finance clause, the pre-approval expiry, the settlement date. The pipeline reads them for you and names what dies this week.
- check Finance clauses inside five days on deals the lender has not approved, first, every time
- check Pre-approvals about to expire under a client who is still bidding
- check Applications sitting quiet at a lender with nothing logged for ten days
- check An application cannot be submitted for a client with no customer due diligence on file. The gate cites the AML/CFT Act.
The money
A commission ledger that argues back
Your lender terms live in the panel as data. Every settlement computes its expected upfront from them, and the statement gets reconciled against expectation, not against memory.
- check Upfronts not received thirty days after drawdown, named and totalled
- check Payments that arrived short against the schedule, called out to the dollar
- check The trail book per year by lender, and the clawback exposure on every loan still in a window
- check A discharge inside the window raises the clawback entry as it happens, with the reason recorded
Yours
Your database, your rule book, your name on the paperwork
Plain records you own, a compliance rule book with sources you can edit, and documents that come out with your logo on them.
- check Import your Trail, Salestrekker or Mercury export in one command, dry run first
- check Running the compliance check applies eight rules from the Acts and the Code against your records, each citing its source
- check Generating your documents puts your brand on refix letters, review packs and settlement summaries
- check Add a field, a rule or a whole command by describing it. MIT licence, no vendor to leave.

A refix inside a clawback window protects the upfront too.
Ask it anything
Questions Trail cannot answer
Every one of these is a real question the demo answers today. Yours will be different, and that is the point.
Switching
How to switch from Trail
The move itself is one export from Trail, one import command into the new database, and a stretch of running both systems together until you trust what came across.
- 1
Export your contacts and loans
In Trail, export your client contacts and your lending report. The client-list export needs organisation admin access, so do this while you still have it. Export whatever your account allows, usually CSV or Excel, and check the exact fields with Trail if you are not sure what is included.
- 2
Run the import, dry run first
From the new system, import your trail data using your exported clients, loans and deals, and do a test run first. That shows you what would come across, clients, loans, balances, rates and the fixed expiry dates the refix book runs on, before anything is written.
- 3
Check what the import flagged
Run the same import for real this time and it loads everything. Every imported client arrives with no CDD date and every imported deal with an empty advice file, on purpose, because the old file never proved otherwise. Run the compliance check and it lists exactly what to backfill before you rely on it.
- 4
Run both side by side
Keep Trail running while you work in the new system for a while. Log new calls, deals and settlements in both. This is how you catch anything that did not map cleanly, a field, a stage name, a commission term, before you are depending on the new record alone.
- 5
Turn off Trail
Once the pipeline, refix book and commission ledger in the new system match what you expect, and you have backfilled what the compliance check flagged, cancel Trail. Your data now sits in records you own, with no admin-gated export and no migration fee if you ever move again.
Where the real effort goes
The real work is not the export or the import command, it is the same as any move: your stage names, your commission terms, your clawback windows, and how much history you bother bringing across versus starting clean from today. That mapping takes judgement about your own business. Enterprise DNA does this part directly when they install and run it for you.

Questions
Instead of Trail, answered
Is it really free? expand_more
Yes. MIT licence. Run it anywhere, change anything, no account with us, no migration fee in either direction.
Do I have to leave my aggregator? expand_more
No. This replaces the CRM record, not the aggregation relationship or the lodgement path. Applications keep going through the lender and aggregator channels they go through today. What changes is that the record of your business stops living inside someone else's subscription.
Does it submit applications or calculate servicing? expand_more
No, and it says so on every screen. Servicing calculators and lodgement belong to the lenders and the aggregator tools. This holds the thing they do not: your pipeline with its clocks, your refix book, your commission expectations and your advice file, queryable in plain language.
What happens to my Trail data? expand_more
Export your contacts and your lending report (the client-list export needs organisation admin access, so do it while you have it), do a test run first, and the book comes across: clients, loans, balances, rates and the fixed expiry dates the refix book runs on. CDD dates and advice files arrive deliberately empty, because this system will not call a file complete just because the old one never said otherwise. Running the compliance check then lists exactly what to backfill.
Is the compliance checking legal advice? expand_more
No. The guide is a rule book with sources: the Disclosure Regulations, the Code, the CCCFA, the AML/CFT Act, the record-keeping standard condition. Each rule has the check that finds a breach in your records, and you edit the rules to match your licence and your jurisdiction. It is your rule book pointed at your data. The Australian equivalents (NCCP, the Best Interests Duty) are in the same guide.
