The play
Use /design to prototype interfaces with editable artboards, then assess whether faster iteration improves client approvals and implementation handoffs.
Anthropic just added a new command to Claude Code called /design. Run it in the CLI or on Desktop and instead of getting a wall of code back, you get editable artboards, basically visual mockups built on Claude’s artifacts feature. You can look at a few options, tweak the one you like, and then tell Claude to go build it for real. It’s a research preview, so it’s early and still getting worked out, but the workflow itself is a real shift in how design and code talk to each other.
Here’s why that matters if you run a business and not a dev shop. Right now, getting from “I want a screen that does X” to an actual working feature usually means a designer mocks something up, a developer translates it, and you lose time and nuance at every handoff. This collapses that. Someone on your team, technical or not, can describe what they want, see a few visual options, pick one, adjust it on screen, and have the AI build the thing they actually pointed at instead of the thing they tried to describe in a ticket.
If you have a small product or ops team, this is worth watching closely over the next few months. It won’t replace a real design process for anything complex, but for internal tools, quick prototypes, or client-facing features you need fast, it cuts out a step that used to take days. That kind of tight loop between “show me options” and “build it” is exactly the sort of thing we build into an AI command centre, where visual decisions and execution happen in the same place instead of bouncing between five tools.
This is brand new, shipped in the last day, so treat it as an early preview rather than a finished workflow. Worth trying on a low stakes internal project before you trust it with anything client facing. The announcement is here.
