The play

Build comparison and alternative pages designed for AI citations, then record discovery prompts to refine content.

A form-builder called Tally just crossed $5 million in annual revenue with 11 people and no outside funding. That’s a solid story on its own, but the part worth paying attention to is where the growth is coming from. Tally says its number one channel now is AI search. Over 10,000 new users a week are finding it through ChatGPT or Perplexity, and tracked ChatGPT signups jumped five times overnight back in May.

How they got there isn’t a mystery. They built a comparison hub with seven competitor pages and more than fifteen “best” or “alternative” guides, written and structured specifically so language models would pick them up as citations. Then they asked every new signup which exact prompt led them to Tally, which means they’re not guessing about this channel, they’re measuring it. In ten months their monthly recurring revenue went from $258,000 to $422,000, according to the founder’s own account.

If you sell anything that people research before buying, this should change how you think about content. SEO used to mean ranking for keywords. Now there’s a second game, getting mentioned by name when someone asks an AI which tool solves their problem. Tally didn’t need a big team or a marketing budget to win that game. They needed clear comparison pages and a habit of tracking where buyers actually come from.

Most owners still have no idea how many of their leads are arriving this way, because nobody’s asking the question at signup. That single habit, tracking the exact prompt that brought someone in, is the kind of signal most businesses are flying blind on. This is the kind of thing we build into an AI command centre, so you can see which channels are actually driving revenue instead of assuming your old playbook still works.
