Espressif, one of the bigger chip makers behind the boards inside a huge chunk of the world’s IoT gadgets, just launched something a little unusual. The ESP-Mosaico dev board is not built for a person typing code. It’s built for an AI agent to do the coding, on the hardware, in real time.

The board runs two modes, called Chat Coding and Vibe Coding. You describe what you want in plain language, and an embedded agent called ESP-Claw writes the code and flashes it straight onto the chip, producing a working prototype. It can also splice together multiple devices, letting the agent stitch different hardware capabilities into one working setup on the fly, without a human wiring up the logic by hand. Why this matters for a business owner: hardware prototyping has always been slow and expensive because you needed an engineer to translate an idea into firmware before you could even test it. If agents can do that translation directly on the chip, the cost of trying a hardware idea drops a lot. That’s relevant whether you make physical products, run a warehouse full of sensors, or just want a quick proof of concept for a client without hiring a specialist.

It’s early. This got picked up on X within hours of launch, and the reaction so far is mostly people reacting to the demo, not independent testing of reliability or safety. Treat “agents write and flash working firmware” as a claim to watch, not a settled fact yet. Still, it’s a clear signal that the “agents doing the work, not just assisting” pattern is spreading from software into physical devices, which is exactly the kind of shift we track and build into an AI command centre for owners who want to act on it early rather than late.
