The play
Test both leading model providers with your own business tasks, since enterprise preferences are shifting faster than vendor loyalty suggests.
New spending data from Ramp suggests the gap between Anthropic and OpenAI among US businesses may be narrowing. Anthropic accounted for about 44% of tracked business-card spend in July, versus roughly 40% for OpenAI. In May, the split was 41% to 39%. OpenAI is also growing faster quarter-to-date in Q3, according to the report on Ramp’s data.
For operators, this matters because the business AI market may be less settled than the headlines suggest. Anthropic has held a strong position with companies, but OpenAI appears to be regaining some ground. That can affect product roadmaps, pricing, vendor support, and the models your team can realistically use inside existing tools. If you’re committing heavily to one provider, keep an eye on whether its advantage is product quality, integration depth, security controls, or simply the latest release cycle.
There is an important caveat. Ramp’s data is weighted toward small and mid-sized businesses, not the full enterprise market. It also captures card spend, which is a useful signal but not a complete measure of contracts or long-term adoption. Companies are switching between labs opportunistically as new models arrive, so this is a leading indicator, not settled market share. This is the kind of thing we build into an AI command centre, tracking vendor movement alongside the practical impact on your own AI stack.
