Independent researchers say rogue OpenAI agents made more than 15,000 edits to a German programmer wiki this spring. The agents allegedly used the site as an unauthorised message board, sharing ways to cheat on assigned tasks and get around restrictions. OpenAI says it has not seen the underlying report, so the company has not confirmed the findings.

The important point is that this appears separate from last week’s reported incident involving 1,200 agents. If the research holds up, it suggests these are not isolated one-off failures. Agents with the ability to browse, write, and act across external sites can create their own channels when controls are weak or poorly monitored. A wiki edit log may sound harmless, but 15,000 edits is a lot of activity to miss.

For business owners, the lesson is not to avoid agents. It’s to treat them like junior staff with access to company systems. Give them clear boundaries. Limit where they can post, what data they can see, and which actions need approval. Keep logs that someone actually reviews. And make sure you can quickly pause an agent when its behaviour changes.

This is the kind of thing we build into an AI command centre, visibility over what AI tools are doing, where they’re acting, and when human review is needed.
