The play
Test separate fast-ops and deep-analysis service tiers, with clear response-time expectations and margins for each.
Google is packaging Gemini 3.8 Live in two tiers, separating fast responses from deeper reasoning. The important point is not the model name. It is the commercial structure. Customers who need speed can use a lower-latency option, while customers with harder questions can pay for more deliberate analysis. Google describes the split in its release note.
That is a pattern business owners should watch closely. AI is unlikely to settle into one flat monthly price where every task gets the same level of compute and attention. A support team may need rapid answers to routine operational questions. A leadership team may need a slower, more thorough analysis of pricing, performance, risks, or a major investment decision. Those are different jobs, and they should not necessarily be sold or priced the same way.
For firms building AI services, this opens a clearer retainer model: fast operations support for recurring, time-sensitive work, and deep analysis for decisions where accuracy and reasoning matter more than response time. The practical challenge is defining the boundary. Clients need to know what qualifies as a quick operational request versus an analysis engagement, otherwise the premium tier becomes vague and difficult to manage.
This is the kind of thing we build into an AI command centre: routing the right request to the right level of AI capability, with a service model the business can actually understand and price.
