Career-ops is an open-source job-search agent built to run inside tools developers already use, including Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode. It has passed 72,000 GitHub stars in roughly six months, with sustained growth of around 429 stars a day, according to the project’s GitHub repository.

The important point is not job search itself. It’s the distribution model. Instead of asking people to find a new SaaS product, create another account and change how they work, career-ops meets users inside an installed command-line environment. Those tools already have an audience, a workflow and a habit attached to them.

For operators building AI products, this is a useful reminder. A strong product can still struggle if it needs customers to adopt a completely new destination. Products that plug into places people already work can reduce that friction. GitHub stars aren’t revenue or proof of a durable business, but this level of sustained attention suggests the route to market is resonating with developers.
