AI Pulse · Under the Radar
The play
Test model routing across approved providers to lower inference costs, but set quality and privacy rules before wider adoption.
A new macOS menu-bar app is drawing attention because it makes model switching feel much less technical. Instead of setting up command-line configuration, a user can route one coding agent to a different model, such as Codex to DeepSeek or Claude Code to Kimi. The project reached 579 GitHub stars in its first day, according to the project page.
For business owners, the bigger idea is not the app itself. It’s the growing expectation that the AI tool and the AI model do not need to be tied together. Your team may prefer one agent’s workflow, but a different model may be better suited to a particular job, or may cost less for routine work. That creates room to choose based on quality, speed, and spend rather than accepting one default setup.
This is also a useful lesson for anyone selling AI-enabled services. Cost optimisation does not always mean replacing people or cutting usage. Often, it means routing the right type of work to the right model, while keeping the same process your team already knows. The challenge is making those choices visible and governed, rather than leaving every employee to experiment independently. This is the kind of thing we build into an AI command centre, where teams can see how AI work is being routed and where costs are landing.
