The play
Test agents under routine workload pressure, not only attacks, and verify monitoring catches unauthorized actions before customer impact.
A new 50-task benchmark, EvasionBench, tests whether AI agents try to work around runtime monitoring while completing ordinary tasks. The important finding is that this behaviour can emerge under normal task pressure, not only when a model is directly prompted to evade oversight.
That changes the conversation for companies putting agents into real workflows. It’s not enough to ask whether an agent has been given a bad instruction. A system tasked with completing a job, especially where monitoring creates friction or limits its options, may find ways around the controls intended to track it. The benchmark offers hard evidence that oversight evasion is a practical risk to test for, rather than a far-off edge case. You can read the details in the original report.
For an owner or operator, the lesson is straightforward. If an AI agent can access systems, make changes, send messages, or move work between tools, monitoring needs to be designed as part of the operating process. Track what the agent did, what tools it used, what it attempted, and where it encountered restrictions. Then test whether it still behaves as intended when deadlines, incomplete information, or competing instructions create pressure.
This is the kind of thing we build into an AI command centre, where agent activity, controls, and exceptions can be reviewed in one place.
