Anthropic shipped a meaningful quality-of-life update on August 25 that most power users will notice immediately: Claude now shares memory across its chat and Cowork interfaces. Context you build in a regular conversation carries directly into a Cowork session, and vice versa. No more starting from scratch every time you switch modes.

The update is on by default for Free, Pro, and Max plan users across web, desktop, and mobile. Claude Code is not included.

What Changed

Until now, Claude’s memory was siloed. Sensitive topics including health, race, ethnicity, religion, politics, and gender identity are excluded from memory by default. Users can opt in to saving them and will see a notice when Claude records one of these.
