Enterprise Legal Software Gets MCP Agent Orchestration

Enterprise legal software company Mitratech announced today it has acquired BotDojo, an AI-native startup, to embed agent orchestration directly into its legal management platform. The deal is small by most measures — BotDojo has around ten people and launched only in 2024 — but what it signals is bigger than the acquisition itself.

MCP, the Model Context Protocol pioneered by Anthropic, is quietly becoming the standard that enterprise software vendors are racing to adopt. Mitratech is now one of them.

What Actually Happened

Mitratech builds software that large legal departments use to manage matters, track spend, store documents, and handle compliance. Its ARIES AI product has been adding AI features to those workflows over the past year.

The BotDojo acquisition accelerates that. According to the press release, Mitratech will add two-way MCP support this Fall. That means:

  • Information inside Mitratech (matters, spend data, documents, historic context) will be exposed to authorized external AI applications as governed MCP services
  • Mitratech’s own AI agents will be able to reach out to external tools using the same protocol

Put plainly: your legal team’s AI agent will be able to call your document system, your spend tracker, and your matter database as easily as it calls any other tool — and vice versa. These systems will talk to each other through a shared protocol rather than requiring custom integrations.

Mitratech plans to showcase these capabilities at its Interact customer conference in October.

Why MCP Matters Here

MCP is a lightweight standard that lets AI agents describe tools and data sources in a consistent way. Rather than every AI vendor building custom connectors to every enterprise system, MCP gives both sides a common language.

When Mitratech says it’s adding “two-way MCP support,” it means:

  1. External AI platforms (ChatGPT Enterprise, Claude, custom agents) can now use Mitratech data through a governed, auditable interface
  2. Mitratech agents can connect outward to MCP-compatible tools — whether that’s a CRM, an HR system, or another specialized data source

This is a significant shift for legal departments. Today, getting an AI agent to work across a legal matter system, a billing platform, and a document repository typically requires either a custom integration project or a separate orchestration layer. MCP collapses that into a single protocol.

The Pattern Playing Out Across Enterprise Software

Mitratech is not alone in this move. Over the past several months, you have seen Salesforce, ServiceNow, Workday, and Zoom all announce MCP compatibility or agentic AI integration layers in their platforms. The pattern is the same: take the existing system of record (the place where your business data lives), and make it natively readable and writable by AI agents.

The companies that do this well are becoming what some analysts call “systems of action” — not just places that store information, but platforms that can act on it. The companies that don’t will find their software being bypassed by AI agents that can get data elsewhere.

What This Means for Business

If you run a legal department, compliance team, or any department that uses specialist software to manage its workflows, you should be watching this closely. The question for the next 12 months is not “can we deploy an AI agent” but “which of our systems are agent-ready, and which ones will become bottlenecks.”

A system that exposes its data through MCP can participate in an agentic workflow. One that doesn’t requires a human to manually pull data out and paste it somewhere else — or a custom integration that someone on your team has to maintain.

The practical implication: as you evaluate software renewals, AI tools, or operational automation projects, ask whether the vendor has MCP support on their roadmap. Not because MCP is the only protocol, but because it is the one that Anthropic, Salesforce, Microsoft, and now vendors like Mitratech are converging on.

Legal teams are a useful leading indicator here because the stakes are high — privileged documents, regulatory compliance, spend controls — so the governance requirements for any AI integration are stringent. If you can make MCP work safely in legal, you can make it work anywhere.

Mitratech’s acquisition of BotDojo is a small deal that represents a large direction. The enterprise software layer is being rewritten for an agentic world, one acquisition and one MCP integration at a time.

Enterprise DNA take: Building an AI agent strategy on top of disconnected software that has no MCP layer is like trying to build a data pipeline before your databases have APIs. The infrastructure shift happening right now inside enterprise software vendors is the thing to track — and getting your systems onto it early is faster than retrofitting later.
