Free AI Employees for Business Just Landed on GitHub

Something that would have cost tens of thousands of dollars in consulting fees two years ago just landed on GitHub under a free MIT license: a complete set of eight AI employees, each running scheduled business routines on your own machine with no subscription required.

Reinventing.AI released the package on September 19, 2026. The repository is public at github.com/markfulton/ai-employees, commercial use is included, and the only real requirement is an agent harness to run it.

What Got Released

The package contains eight role-based AI employees covering most of the core functions a small or growing business needs to run:

  • GTM Engineer — launch coordination, positioning, and outbound outreach (8 routines)
  • SEO/AEO Employee — content strategy, article publishing, and search visibility (8 routines)
  • Web Dev Employee — site health monitoring, error triage, and dependency review (8 routines)
  • Social Media Employee — platform-specific posts with human approval windows (7 routines)
  • Ad Manager Employee — account monitoring and creative optimization (7 routines)
  • Sales Employee — prospect research, outreach, and follow-ups (7 routines)
  • Customer Satisfaction Employee — support inbox management and churn flagging (8 routines)
  • Chief of Staff — cross-employee oversight and strategic recommendations (7 routines)

Combined, that is 60 scheduled business routines covering the kind of work that typically requires multiple part-time hires or expensive freelancers.

How It Actually Works

Each AI employee is not software in the traditional sense. It is a folder of plain text files: a role description, an operating contract, a schedule, and a set of routines. An agent harness reads those files and executes the work on your machine.

The system supports 11 harnesses: Claude Code, OpenClaw, Hermes, OpenCode, Grok Bot, Codex, Antigravity, Muse, Pi, Cline, and DeepSeek. It runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

The design philosophy is human-in-the-loop by default. Routines draft work, fill templates, and stage outputs — but nothing publishes, sends, or ships without a human review step. The system also learns as it runs: it reads your website to understand your business and updates its own instructions after each run based on what worked.

All processing is local. Your business data does not leave your machine.

Why This Matters for Business Owners

The cost arithmetic here is significant. A fractional marketing hire, a part-time sales coordinator, a customer support contractor — these typically run $2,000 to $6,000 per month per role, even at entry level. Running eight of these functions means six-figure annual overhead before software costs.

Open-source AI employees do not replace people on complex work. They do not write strategy, manage relationships, or make judgment calls. What they do is handle the repeating, schedulable tasks that eat hours every week: drafting outreach emails, monitoring site health, flagging churned customers, posting social updates, checking ad performance.

The question for any business owner is not whether this technology is real. It is whether you have someone who can set it up and maintain the configuration. The open-source model makes the tooling free, but the implementation still requires a person with enough technical literacy to connect it to your systems and keep the prompts accurate.

That gap between free tooling and working deployment is exactly where the real cost sits.

What the Harness Ecosystem Tells You

This release supports 11 different agent harnesses from day one. That is not accidental. It signals that the market for agent harnesses — platforms that actually run AI workflows — has matured enough that a third-party library can target multiple runtime environments simultaneously.

A year ago this would have meant writing integrations from scratch. Today there are enough harnesses with enough users that it makes sense to publish once and run anywhere.

The same pattern has played out in every major software category. First the runtime environments stabilize, then the application layer appears on top of them. Open-source AI employees are an early signal that we are entering the application layer of agentic AI.

What This Means for Business

The practical implications depend on where you sit:

If you are running a lean team, this is worth evaluating seriously. The SEO/AEO employee and sales employee alone could justify the setup time. You would need someone to configure and maintain them, but the tooling is now free.

If you are in professional services, expect your clients to start asking about this. The question “can AI do this for us” is now more often answered with “here is the code” rather than “here is a proposal.”

If you are evaluating AI vendors, watch what happens with open-source options like this. Enterprise vendors will need to show meaningfully better results than free alternatives to justify their pricing, which creates pressure on the entire vendor ecosystem to compete on outcome quality rather than feature counts.

If you are thinking about workforce planning, AI employees handling the scheduled, repeatable layer of business operations changes what human roles need to look like. The value of a human hire increasingly sits in judgment, relationships, and the work that cannot be scheduled in advance.

Enterprise DNA works with businesses at exactly this transition point — figuring out what AI should own, what humans should own, and how to build systems that work reliably. If that sounds like where your team is, a conversation is a good place to start.
