Instead of Workday Adaptive Planning
Stop renting Adaptive Planning. Own your budget and forecast.
We build your version around your chart of accounts and your month-end, bring your Adaptive Planning budget and forecast across, and run it for you. Every budget holder can see the numbers without another planner licence.
Workday publishes no price for Adaptive Planning. Every plan is quoted privately, priced on the size of your organisation, the planners you license and the modules you add.

What the subscription pays for
A planning bill that grows with every module and every planner
Adaptive Planning is sold by quote. The numbers underneath are a chart of accounts, a few versions and a value for each month. Most of what you pay for is the layer on top.
A price you only see in a quote
There is no public price list. The quote depends on how big your organisation is, how many people plan in it and which modules you take.
Planners are licensed
Budget holders who type numbers into a sheet are part of what the quote counts. Adding a department manager to the budget round can change the bill.
Workforce and capital plans are separate work
Headcount and capital planning run as their own models. Each one is more configuration, and often more partner time.
A partner to build the model
Many businesses pay an implementation partner to set up the sheets, formulas and reports, and pay again when the structure changes.
Committed for years at a time
Buyers are told to push for three or five year terms to get a discount, and annual true-ups bring the licence up to match how many people use it.
Values export, the logic stays
Export Data writes account values by month. The formulas, drivers and workflow that took a year to build do not come with them.
Your own budget and forecast
The jobs a finance team does every month, as plain questions
Month-end
Close the month and explain it
Last month lands against the approved budget, line by line, with every large variance waiting for its explanation.
- check Variances over your thresholds, with the budget holder who owes the comment
- check Drafted requests to each budget holder, for a person to send
- check The close checklist with late tasks and who owns them
- check A month-end summary written for the CEO in one answer
Forecast
Know where the year lands
Budgets, forecasts and scenarios are versions of the same numbers. Rolling the forecast after each close takes one request.
- check Actuals to date plus the forecast for the rest of the year, against budget
- check What changed between the board budget and the latest reforecast
- check A warning when the forecast still holds guesses for months already closed
- check Next year's budget started from this year's actuals plus your growth rate
Cash and the bank
No covenant surprise
Closing cash and every bank covenant are tested on actuals and on each forecast month, so a breach shows months ahead.
- check Minimum cash, interest cover and debt to EBITDA, tested monthly or quarterly
- check The first forecast month a covenant fails
- check The lowest cash point in the forecast and when it happens
- check A draft compliance certificate for the lender
People, tax and the board
The checks a director signs off
Record checks against NZ and AU rules, each with its source, so the gaps show before the board meets.
- check Planned hires costed below the KiwiSaver minimum or the super guarantee
- check GST returns and BAS overdue or due within two weeks
- check Dividends with no solvency certificate, or more than the forecast cash can carry
- check A board pack drafted from current numbers each month

Switching
How to switch from Workday Adaptive Planning
The move involves exporting the versions you need, mapping your accounts and levels, checking the import, and comparing both systems before you switch.
- 1
Export the versions you need
In Workday Adaptive Planning, use Integration > Export Data to export the account values for each version you want to keep, such as the approved budget and current forecast. Each export contains one row per account and level, with a column for each month. Choose the history you need to bring across. The export carries values, not formulas, drivers, modeled sheets or workflow.
- 2
Load a test version
Bring each export into a separate version in the new system, starting with a test run before saving anything. The import matches accounts and levels by code or name. If you have monthly actuals to bring across, prepare those from your accounting system as entity, account code, month and amount. Decide which years and versions are needed rather than carrying every record by default.
- 3
Resolve the import findings
Review the import’s list of accounts and levels that do not match. Add mappings for items that use different codes or names, then run the check again. The import checks the whole file and saves nothing until every account and level matches. It skips rollup columns such as quarters and totals. Make sure the mapped entities and accounts represent the same records you expect before saving.
- 4
Run both systems side by side
Keep Workday Adaptive Planning and the new system running side by side for a short period. Compare the same versions, accounts, levels and months in both, and investigate any differences before relying on the new records. Check that the versions you need are present and that your team understands which system to use during the overlap. Rebuild any formulas, drivers, sheets or workflow you still rely on.
- 5
Switch off Adaptive Planning
Once you have checked the imported values and are ready to use the new system, stop entering or updating planning data in Workday Adaptive Planning. Keep any records you need for reference or reporting, following your organisation’s retention requirements. Tell budget holders and finance staff where to send updates and comments. The free version has no shared entry screen, so the finance lead records their inputs or imports their spreadsheets.
Where the real effort goes
The main work is mapping your account and level fields, deciding which versions and history to bring across, and rebuilding any formulas, drivers, modeled sheets or workflow you rely on. The export contains values, not those planning rules. If you have Enterprise DNA run the system for you, Enterprise DNA does this mapping and rebuilding as part of the switch.

Questions
Instead of Workday Adaptive Planning, answered
Our budget holders type their numbers into Adaptive Planning. What happens to that? expand_more
In the free version, budget holders send their numbers or their comments and the finance lead records them, or their spreadsheet is imported. If you want a shared entry screen with each manager seeing only their own lines, Enterprise DNA builds it into your version on the same database.
What comes across from Adaptive Planning? expand_more
Adaptive Planning's Export Data writes the account values of one version to a file, by level and month. The free version reads that file for each version you keep, matches levels and accounts by code or name, and saves nothing until every one matches. Formulas, drivers, modeled sheets and workflow do not export as values: rebuilding the ones you rely on is part of what Enterprise DNA does in a switch.
Does it handle a group with an NZ and an Australian company? expand_more
Yes. Each company keeps its own currency, GST or BAS period and covenants, and nothing ever adds NZD to AUD. Consolidating the group into one currency is something Enterprise DNA adds to your version.
What does it cost compared with Adaptive Planning? expand_more
Workday quotes Adaptive Planning privately, so we cannot put its price next to ours. The free version has no licence fee; hosting it and using a coding assistant have their own costs. Enterprise DNA charges one setup fee for your version, then a retainer, with no charge per planner.
Are the KiwiSaver, super, GST and dividend checks advice? expand_more
No. They are record checks with the rule and its source cited: the KiwiSaver employer minimum and the super guarantee rate for each hire, GST and BAS due dates, a directors' solvency certificate for an NZ distribution and the net assets test for an Australian dividend. Your accountant and your directors still make the calls.
