What the renewal covers
A planning platform around your own pay decisions
CompXL combines planning, manager workflows, budget controls and other compensation functions. Start with the parts your team uses each review cycle, then compare the full scope of your renewal.
The annual planning licence
The CompXL Annual Planning edition is sold on annual contract terms. Confirm your edition, employee allowance and renewal conditions with the vendor.
Manager planning worksheets
CompXL provides configurable worksheets for salary, bonus and other compensation plans. Your managers supply the proposed amounts and reasons.
Approval routing
Manager and administrator workflows carry proposals through approval chains. The decision and its supporting evidence are records your business needs to retain.
Group budget controls
CompXL lets teams set budgets by group and track spend. Your annual increase pool and one-off bonus pool start with decisions made by your finance team.
Market intelligence in Max
The current Max product includes market information and job matching. Decide whether your review needs a licensed market-data service alongside your own planning records.
Connections to your people systems
CompXL connects with existing people systems. Moving the planning work means agreeing which records come across and who checks them before the next cycle.

Ten questions your review desk answers today
These reports combine your proposals, budgets and evidence. They are shipped examples, not a claim that CompXL cannot be configured to answer them.
Switching
How to switch from CompXL
A move usually involves exporting a planning worksheet, mapping your fields and rules, checking the imported records, then running both systems side by side before you stop using CompXL.
- 1
Export your planning records
Ask CompXL what your account can export, since its export options are not specified here. Salary.com documents downloadable planning workbooks, and a configured worksheet can be saved as CSV. Bring across the records you need for the review cycle, including people and salary baselines, pay bands, budgets, proposals, decisions and approval history. Check which attachments and other history need separate migration work.
- 2
Prepare and test the worksheet
Start with a configured planning worksheet saved as CSV. Have your administrator match its headings to the new desk and verify the annual salary basis, then use the import's test run before loading operational records. The test helps expose mapping problems before the full import. Keep the source worksheet unchanged while you work, because changed source rows are flagged during validation.
- 3
Review the import checks
Check the import results for unknown columns, changed source rows and salary baselines that do not match. Correct the worksheet or its mapping, then test again before proceeding. Imported approvals remain history until someone reconciles them into the new desk, so do not treat an imported approval as a new approval. Confirm that the records you intend to use are present and make sense.
- 4
Run both systems side by side
For a short period, keep CompXL available while you use the new desk for the same review work. Compare the people and proposals in each system, along with salary baselines, budget figures, decisions and evidence. Investigate any differences before relying on the new records. Keep the source approvals as history until they have been reconciled, and make clear to your team where new decisions should be recorded.
- 5
Switch off CompXL
When the records and checks are complete and your team is ready, stop entering new review decisions in CompXL and use the new desk for the agreed work. Follow CompXL's process for ending access or your contract. Keep the exported records private and retain any source material you still need, especially items that were not included in the worksheet migration.
Where the real effort goes
The real work is usually mapping your fields and review rules, verifying salary baselines, and choosing how much history to bring across. Attachments, formulas and historic access controls need separately agreed migration work. If you have Enterprise DNA run the new desk, they handle bringing your agreed CompXL records across and building your review rules and documents.

Questions
Instead of CompXL, answered
Does this replace payroll or decide what people should earn? expand_more
It covers annual salary-review planning and fixed bonus proposals. Your managers decide the amounts, your advisers check employment requirements, and your payroll team keeps payroll. The free version records those decisions and produces internal working papers. It does not calculate tax, pay wages or issue employment agreements.
Can we bring our CompXL history across? expand_more
The free version imports a configured planning worksheet saved as CSV. Your administrator maps the headings, checks the annual salary basis and runs a test first. Source approvals stay as history until reconciled. Attachments, formulas, historic access controls and other records need separately agreed migration work.
What happens when a proposal exceeds budget or sits outside a pay band? expand_more
Submission checks the reserved increase and bonus budgets separately. Approval needs a separate reviewer label and a policy-review reference. A proposal outside a recorded band also needs an exception reference. These are record checks. Your authorised people supply the actual decisions and evidence.
Can our managers use their own screens and keep salaries private? expand_more
Enterprise DNA builds your team screens, authenticated access and permissions into the agreed setup. The free version is for a trusted operator using a protected database. Its actor labels are a record of what was entered, not proof of identity. Private snapshots and documents need the same care as your salary files.
What does Enterprise DNA charge, and how does it compare with CompXL? expand_more
We agree one setup fee, then a retainer for the version we build and run. Bring your CompXL renewal and the functions your team uses to the call. Salary.com quotes the current Max product, including its wider planning and market-information capabilities. We compare the work and connections you need before agreeing the scope.
Bring your next pay-review cycle to Sam
