Rillet’s $100 million Series C, at a $1 billion valuation, is another clear signal that AI’s near-term business value may sit in back-office work that companies have always treated as necessary overhead. The company says annual recurring revenue doubled in the three months before the raise and it now has more than 600 customers. Total funding is now above $200 million.

The more useful detail is its Mercor reference story. Mercor reportedly runs more than $2 billion in ARR with a three-person finance team, using Rillet’s AI agents for back-office accounting. That does not mean finance teams disappear. It points to a different operating model. Agents handle much of the repetitive processing, reconciliation, and workflow work. A small group of experienced people still owns controls, exceptions, decisions, and accountability.

For an owner, the question is not whether you can cut your finance team to three people. It is where your own team spends time moving information between systems, checking routine work, and chasing missing data. Accounting is a strong early target because the work is structured, frequent, and measurable. The firms that benefit most will set clear approval rules and keep humans responsible for judgment, rather than handing the process over without oversight.
