The play

Diversify model providers now, and test alternatives before contract changes or access cutoffs disrupt critical workflows.

OpenAI’s access to Cursor now has a confirmed end date of November 12. The date represents the maximum notice period under the contract, turning what had been a reported cutoff into a fixed operational deadline.

For Cursor users, the immediate disruption may be smaller than the headline suggests. OpenAI models account for roughly 5% of Cursor’s traffic, with Anthropic, Google, SpaceXAI and Composer already covering most of the workload. That means Cursor has alternatives in place, but teams that rely on a specific OpenAI model inside their coding workflow should still check what happens to prompts, agents, integrations and quality after November 12.

The broader lesson is simple. AI suppliers can change access terms quickly, particularly when acquisitions, contracts or competitive tensions are involved. If a critical workflow depends on one model provider, document where that dependency sits and identify a fallback before you need it. This is the kind of thing we build into an AI command centre, giving operators a clear view of which tools, models and business processes depend on each other.
