The play
Review VPN and network controls for agents, especially where tools access customer data, internal systems, or remote work environments.
Bitdefender has launched a free beta VPN aimed specifically at AI agents, according to IT Brief NZ’s report. That matters because AI agents are moving beyond answering questions. They’re increasingly being designed to access websites, call software tools, retrieve data and complete tasks on a company’s behalf.
A VPN is not a complete security answer, but it can provide a more controlled network connection for systems operating online. The notable part here is the product focus. Security vendors are starting to treat AI agents as a distinct type of user or system that needs its own safeguards, rather than just another feature inside an existing app.
For ANZ business owners, this is an early signal to take agent access seriously before deploying tools that can touch customer records, financial systems, internal documents or supplier platforms. Ask where an agent connects, what credentials it uses, what data it can see and whether its activity can be monitored. Free beta products can be useful for learning, but they should not be assumed ready for sensitive business workloads without proper review.
This is the kind of thing we build into an AI command centre, where agent activity, access and business risk need to be visible in one place.
