Instead of Canny

Stop renting Canny. Own your product feedback system.

We build your version around your product review, bring your Canny records across and run it for you. Your customer promises and decision history stay in a database you own.

Canny Pro starts at US$79 a month billed yearly. Its published rate for 5,000 tracked users is US$1,079 a month on annual billing, or US$12,948 a year.

The subscription

Participation changes the bill

Canny charges by tracked users. A growing feedback programme changes what you pay even when the team reviewing it stays the same size.

groups

People giving feedback

A person with an attributed post, vote or comment counts as a tracked user.

trending_up

The next usage band

Without a spending limit, exceeding the allowance moves the account into the next band.

shield

A spending limit with a consequence

At the configured limit, Canny stops tracking feedback from new users until the limit changes.

dashboard

Hosted feedback screens

Boards, a roadmap and a changelog are included. Your weekly decision process lives around those screens.

database

Moving the history

Posts can be exported to a spreadsheet. Individual voters, comments and files need their own migration review.

Run the review around the promises you made

Triage

Know what needs a decision

Give each request an owner and a recorded next step.

  • check Review new feedback in one list
  • check Find missing owners and stale reviews
  • check Check similar titles before estimating twice
  • check Keep the source status beside your local decision

Evidence

Separate votes from verified demand

Record which accounts asked for an idea and why.

  • check Count each supporting account once per idea
  • check Compare recurring revenue within each currency
  • check Rank supported demand against effort
  • check Spot imported requests still missing account evidence

Promises

Carry the commitment through to acceptance

An idea shipping is one step. Customer acceptance is another.

  • check Record the account, owner and promised date
  • check Find overdue promises during the weekly review
  • check Connect upcoming renewals to unresolved requests
  • check Draft follow-up for completed work with open promises

Records

Keep a review trail you can inspect

Make decisions and privacy reviews part of the working record.

  • check Record who changed the status and why
  • check Prepare a branded decision pack and promise statement
  • check Flag scoped personal-information review gaps
  • check Export the feedback, evidence, promises and history together

Switching

How to switch from Canny

The move is usually less about copying posts than deciding which fields, account links and history you need to bring across.

  1. 1

    Export your Canny posts

Use Canny's Posts export and include Post Title and Post URL. Export the posts you want to review in the new system, along with the source fields and counts available to your account. The newer Ideas export is a different format, so check with Canny if that is the export your account provides. Individual voter details, comment text and attached files need separate mapping.

  2. 2

    Test and load the posts

Use the Canny Posts spreadsheet in the import, and test it before saving records. The test run shows what the importer would bring in without writing the data. Once the results look right, load the posts into a fresh database. The free version preserves source fields and counts, but does not create voter identities or comments from aggregate totals.

  3. 3

    Review the import results

Check what the import identifies as needing account mapping, then compare the imported counts and source fields with Canny. Decide how to handle individual voters, comment text and attached files, since they need separate mapping. If you have the newer Ideas export, confirm its different mapping before relying on those records. Reconcile any gaps before you use the new system for decisions.

  4. 4

Run both systems side by side

Keep Canny live while you review feedback and customer promises in the new system for a short period. Compare the records and counts, and check that the owners and follow-up you need are in place. Keep any collection channel you still need until its replacement has been tested. This gives you a chance to find gaps before you stop relying on Canny.

  5. 5

    Switch off Canny

Once you have checked the imported records, confirmed the account mapping and tested any replacement collection channel, move your review and follow-up work to the new system. Keep any Canny records you still need according to your own retention policy. Then switch off Canny when you are confident the work you rely on no longer depends on it.

construction

Where the real effort goes

The main effort is not copying posts. It is mapping your fields, account evidence, decision rules and customer follow-up, then choosing which history to bring. Post totals can transfer, but individual voters, comment text, attachments and the newer Ideas export need separate mapping. If Enterprise DNA runs the move, they handle this mapping and reconciliation with you before switching.

Questions

Instead of Canny, answered

Are you replacing everything Canny does? expand_more

We start with the product review: feedback, account evidence, promises and follow-up. Enterprise DNA scopes the customer portal, collection channels and connections into your installed version. Keep any needed collection channel until its replacement is tested.

Can you bring our existing feedback across? expand_more

Yes. The free version imports the Canny Posts spreadsheet and preserves the source fields and counts. Individual voters, comment text and attached files need separate mapping. The newer Ideas export also needs a different mapping. We reconcile these with you before switching.

Will the revenue ranking exaggerate our opportunity? expand_more

The ranking counts each verified supporting account once per idea and separates currencies. Imported revenue totals remain separate source snapshots. Supporting revenue shows who cares about a request; it is not a promise that building it wins that revenue.

Why own this instead of choosing UserVoice? expand_more

UserVoice is another feedback platform and currently quotes pricing privately. The decision here is whether to subscribe to another service or own a system built around your product review. We build your fields, decision rules and follow-up process into your version.

Who maintains it and handles privacy? expand_more

You operate the free version yourself, or Enterprise DNA installs and runs your version for one setup fee and a retainer. The free checks flag scoped NZ and Australian personal-information review gaps. Review dates are business policy, and a clean report is not proof of full compliance.
