The play
Offloop's four-person team and cost-per-task numbers give you a concrete benchmark for what a lean AI-ops unit can credibly deliver.
A four-person team at Offloop just published numbers that give you a concrete ratio to think about when you’re sizing an AI project. They ran 220 tasks through their multi-agent system for $363. The same workload on a standard Claude Code setup would have cost around $3,100, according to the testing catalog. These are vendor-reported figures, not audited by a third party, but they’re still a useful anchor.
Here’s why it matters. Most AI pitches give you vague promises about efficiency. This gives you a ratio: roughly 8.5x cheaper per task when you tune a multi-agent system for recurring work instead of running each job through a general-purpose model. If you’re evaluating a vendor or building internally, you now have a benchmark to test against. Ask them to show you cost per task on a real workload, not a demo. If they can’t get within shouting distance of that ratio, you know they haven’t optimized the system or they’re using the wrong architecture for the job.
The headcount part is just as interesting. Four people built and ran this. That’s not a sprawling engineering team. It’s a senior developer, a product person, and two operators. If you’re a mid-market company wondering whether you need to hire a dozen data scientists to get value from AI, this suggests you don’t. You need a small, focused team that understands your recurring workflows and can wire agents together properly. The kind of setup we build into an AI command centre is designed around this exact model: a handful of people orchestrating agents that handle the repetitive, structured work while your team focuses on the exceptions and the strategy.
The numbers aren’t gospel, but they’re a starting point. Use them to pressure-test what you’re being sold.
