The play
Watch Databricks as a potential integrated agent platform, and assess whether its governance and data stack fit your operating model.
Databricks just closed a $5 billion funding round at a $190 billion valuation. That’s the second raise this year for the company, led by Coatue with Blackstone, MGX, and T. Rowe Price also putting money in. Revenue run-rate is now past $7 billion, up more than 80% year-on-year, according to the original report.
Here’s the part that matters most for owners watching where this space is heading. The money isn’t going into general growth or marketing. It’s earmarked for specific infrastructure: Lakebase, Genie, and Unity AI Gateway, all tools built for constructing and running AI agents inside a company’s own data environment. That’s a signal about where the market thinks the real value sits. Not in flashy chat interfaces, but in the plumbing that lets a business connect its own data to AI systems that can actually take action, not just answer questions.
If you run a company that has been circling the idea of AI agents but wasn’t sure the infrastructure was mature enough to bet on, this raise is one more data point saying the big players are betting billions that it is. Investors don’t put $5 billion behind a company at an 80% growth rate unless they think demand for this kind of agent infrastructure is about to get a lot bigger, not smaller.
You don’t need to buy what Databricks sells to learn from this. The lesson is that connecting your business data to AI agents, in a structured and secure way, is quickly becoming table stakes rather than a nice-to-have. That’s exactly the kind of thing we build into an AI command centre, so your team can act on your own data instead of just asking questions about it. Worth watching where this space moves next, since the money is clearly voting with its feet.
