Matter update inbox for a law firm
Replies to "where is my matter at?" emails from the practice management system, and routes everything else to the right lawyer.
The problem
A big share of client email is some version of "any update?". Each one pulls a lawyer or law clerk out of billable work to look up a file and write two lines.
How it works
- Reads each new email to the firm's client inbox
- Matches the sender to their client record and open matter
- Drafts a plain-English status reply from the matter's latest file notes
- Sends routine updates automatically, or holds them for review, whichever the firm chooses
- Forwards anything that needs judgement to the responsible lawyer with a short summary
What it connects to
- ClientHi, just checking where things are at with the sale of my mother's house. Has the buyer's lawyer come back yet?
- AgentHi Mark, thanks for checking in. The buyer's lawyer confirmed the finance condition on Tuesday, so the agreement is now unconditional. Settlement is still booked for Friday 14 November.
- ClientGreat. Do I need to sign anything else?
- AgentYes, one authority and instruction form. I've asked your lawyer to send it through today, and she'll call you if anything else is needed.
Illustrative conversation. Names, numbers and details are made up.
